Not sure if vacuum cleaners fit into a boutique/book store but a good product is a good product. While in Chicago this past Jan. buying wonderful gift items for the store my friend Shirley and I came across an Oreck dealer. I have an 8 lb. Oreck vacuum cleaner that I love. We tried out a little sweeper which picked up all manner of stuff and thought we want one of these for our homes when we don't want to get out the vacuum cleaner. It was like a broom only better plus you didn't have to have a dust pan close by. Where can we buy them we asked? Well, if you buy 12 little sweepers you only have to sell 10 and on top of that you will be an Oreck dealer. Say hello to the new Oreck dealer in Chetek. So come on in to Annz Boutique where you can leave looking great and ready to clean up at home.

It was a privilege to have so many talented authors visit Annz this past year. Carl Hoveland author of "Sandcreek, A Childhood Legacy", Jean Hebert "Beyond the Open Well", Monica Holtz

"Emily at the Zoo", Michelle Klecker "A Patient Leaf", Eileen Ziesler and Janelle Thompson author and illustrator of "Toads", Dan Van Tassel "Back to Barron", Nancy Bjornson author of the children's series "Cash and Jesse" and I went to the Chetek and Bloomer schools to give the children an opportunity to visit with the author and hear her read from her exciting books.

I thank all these authors for coming to my shop in Chetek.

I am so excited to tell you that author Monica Holtz will be at Annz Boutique & Books Sat. Dec. 19. Monica is the author of "Emily Goes to the Park" a book about a child's experiences at the zoo at Irvine Park in Chippewa Falls, Wi. Monica will be dressed in holiday attire and will read her book and others. I too hope to read one of my favorite Christmas stories.

Monica will be at Annz from 11:00-2:00. Please come and join us for this special Christmas presentation.

Midwest Booksellers Convention

Recently attended the Midwest Booksellers Convention held in St. Paul. I was fortunate to meet with several authors and have them sign their books. Looking for a special book to read you are sure to find it here and if not I can order and have it shipped to you.

Lots of great books coming out this fall. Some of my favorites are Prairie Home Companion Pretty Good Joke Book for the jokester in your family. for the children "A Farm Country Halloween" by Gordon Fredrikson and for those who have been waiting for a new adventure for Carl the Dog comes "Carl's Snowy Afternoon" by Alexandra Day.

I discovered author best known for her series of Betsy-Tacy books. the books are "historical fiction" based on the author's childhood memories. And a new one by Warren Hanson "Everything Happens for a Reason" is a must for everyone.

Carl Hoveland's visit to Annz

Carl Hoveland author of "Sandcreek, A Childhood Legacy" recently visited Annz Books. Mr. Hoveland entertained those in attendance with wonderfully reminiscent readings from his book.

Mr Hoveland now resides in Athens Georgia.

Fall Fashions have arrived!

Just got back from Minneapolis where my friend Shirley and I spent the day shopping for new and different gift/book/clothing items for the store. It was a long day but I think we purchased some things you will want to purchase as well. Will take some pictures of the items as they arrive at the store.

One of my very favorite things to do and the thing I miss most from my teaching days is reading good literature to children and to adults for that matter. There are wonderful classics and outstanding newcomers to children's literature. I just put "Martha Doesn't Say Sorry" on the shelf. It is a good story, and a great lesson for children and adults too can be learned from Martha, the main character in the story. It was fun to see that the author's (Samantha Berger)and illustrator's( Bruce Whatley) picture on the back jacket were of them as children.

Now for a few of my favorite oldies. "Billy and Blaze" written by C.W. Anderson might not grab your attention because of the pencil drawings but remember "don't judge a book by it's cover". It is a series about a boy Billy and his horse Blaze. The first book deals with how Billy gets Blaze and other books are about various adventures they have. The children in my 1st grade classroom loved these stories. Many of the new media specialists are throwing the book out because of the cover but fortunately they are being reprinted so future generations can enjoy this delightful story. Another wonderful series is "The Boxcar Children" by Gertrude Chandler Warner.

This series is getting a whole new face lift. The resourcefulness of the 4 main characters is as amazing today as it was when first introduced.

Stop in and pick out a book for your child, grandchild or yourself. Have fun reading!

Dan Van Tassel

Dan Van Tassel author of the book "Back to Barron" came to Annz Boutique & Books June 9. . He was greeted by old friends he hadn't seen in a long while and made some new friends. Everyone sat around the table getting their books signed and sharing their own stories about Barron, Wi.

Dan's sister, Chris from Calif. joined us, both Dan, his wife and his sister live in Calif. now but their roots and heart are in Barron Wi. where they grew up. A big thank you to Carol Burnham from the Calhoun Public library for helping to sponsor Dan's visit.

The conversation continued over dinner at Gilligan's on the lake.

On Saturday June 6, Annz Boutique & Books was happy to have Eileen Ziesler author of "Toads" and illustrator Janelle Thompson at the store. Janelle was painting on a huge hand that will be in front of the Eau Claire Children's Museum The weather was rainy but it didn't affect the wonder of this beautiful book. We were busy listening to the story and playing with our very own "toads".

I had a wonderful visit with Michelle Klecker author of "The Patient Leaf". Great little book for young children. Michelle is going to return in the summer to read in The Courtyard. Until then I will have to be patient.

Authors at Annz Books

On August 16 author, Kerry Casey of the book "Fall to Grace" spent 2 hours visiting, sharing and signing his wonderful book. If you haven't read "Fall to Grace" you are in for a great read! This is a story about two 13 year old boys who lose their fathers tragically on the same day and the priest who brings them together. It follows the boys friendship through the years. Kerry promises a sequel.

Sept. 20-Authors of the book "Just Read the Darn Thing" will read poems and stories from their book.

Sept. 27-Jean Hebert will sign and discuss her book"Beyond the Open Well", the true and gripping story of the abuse suffered by two sisters in northwestern Wis.

October 4-Children's author Amy Lundebrek "Under the Night Sky" Beautiful pictures.

New clothes came into today. It is like Christmas opening the boxes. Ladies were trying on as fast as I was unpacking.
Really cute tops which reminded me of Andy Warhol's paintings, also some classic navy blazers and pants.
